Bold Kitchen Design

We talked about gray last month and showed you why it's our favorite neutral to work with in the kitchen to create a calm space that will stand the test of time. This month, we are focusing on BOLD kitchen design! Kitchens are no longer just a functional space; instead, kitchens are often the centerpiece of your home design concept, and of course, the heart of the home. Let's take a look at a few bold designs featuring high-contrast decor and the color black.

The kitchen below features matte black cabinets, white marble with gray veining, and a disappearing stove hood. The herringbone patterned wood floors and exposed open wood shelving warm up this otherwise "cool" kitchen. We love pairing light marble countertops with a dark cabinet and floor color to give a space a bold, high-contrast design. A mixture of brass and matte black fixtures complete the space and add a modern finishing touch.

This bar space below shows us how to pair two dark neutrals together- navy cabinets with a high gloss black subway tile backsplash. Again, these darker design components are complemented by a white marble countertop with gray veining, which we love. The brass fixtures on the cabinets and the open shelving create cohesion in the space; each of these elements is a classic, but combining them is what makes this design bold and eye catching.

In this traditional space below, the cabinets extend the full height of the wall, making a bold statement in a glossy black finish. The contrast from the white island and countertops transition this otherwise traditional kitchen into the contemporary design camp. Medium toned wood floors balance out the contrast by providing a warm base color to the design.

Bold and brass! This high contrast kitchen features glossy black cabinets, white marble countertops and backsplash, as well as mixed metal finishes that make a traditional statement with a bit of edge. As always, using marble as a backsplash creates a seamless and dramatic look that will be sure to set your kitchen apart. Another option here could have been to use a high contrast marble to further increase the wow factor of this space.

If you're looking for kitchen inspiration for an upcoming remodel, don't be afraid to venture into the bold, high-contrast world of design for your kitchen. You can play it safe or you can make your eating space one of the focal points in your home design. As always, we are happy to help you with any design questions or the countertop selection process.
